STEAM ENGINE HISTORY/ WATTS BREAKTHROUGH
This is an article on encyclopedia.com “Steam Engine History/ Watts Breakthrough” The steam engine was a great impact in world history. Thomas Savery (English military engineer) built the first steam engine. His invention, “designed to pump water out of coal mines, was known as the Miner’s Friend”. “A few year later, Thomas Newcome improved the steam pump. He increased efficiency by setting a moving piton inside a cylinder, a technique still in use today”. The biggest improvement on the steam engine was by James Watt. He changed improved many things on the steam engine. “He added a Centrifugal governor, this device could control steam output and engines speed. The engine double acting by allowing steam to enter alternately on either side of the piston.” This allows the engine to work quickly and deliver power on the downward as well as upward piston stroke. James also attached a flywheel to allow the engine to run smoothly.

James Watts
This article is all about James Watt and the discovery of the steam engine. I found this article on history.co.uk. James Watt’s grandfather set up a school of mathematics. When Jame’s Watt was born in 1736 you could say his future life seemed great to start with. Jame’s Watts “educated mother home schooled him as his father’s business, was ran from their backyard.” When James was a kid he loved deconstructing and reassembling his toys with the small tool kit his father gave him. Once James was old enough he attended a university. “In 1763 the university asked him to repair one of their Newcomen steam engines.” “This steam powered engine was invented by English engineers Savery and Newcomen.” The steam engine was used to pump out water. But, James Watt couldn’t afford this himself, because he was deeply in debt. So, one of Jame’s Watts partners (Robert Black) “introduced him to British inventor John Roebuck.” John Roebuck help finances James Watt’s research to make a working model. John Roebuck also paid off Jame’s debt. But, in return of paying off Jame’s debt John Roebuck wanted two third ownership of Watt’s invention. Jame Watt’s steam engine failed many times. Which caused him to suffer from insomnia and deep depression, the only person who would be able to help him and kept him together was his wife. After many tries the steam engine was a success and he was able to retire and hand his business down to his sons.

Jame Watts/ The coming of the steam engine
“James Watts was the father of the industrial revolution.” He was born in 1736 in Greenock, Scotland . James was an inventor, engineer and scientist. James Watts was not the first one to invent the steam engine. The steam engine was originated by Thomas Savery in 1698. Thomas’s steam engine was used to draw water from flooded mines using steam pressure, but Thomas Savery’s invention wasn’t 100% reliable. James Watt’s attended Glasgow University.” In 1759, four years after his arrival in Glasgow, the 23 year-old James Watt became interested in steam engines.” In 1763 James Watt was 27, James came into contact with a working steam engine, and that engine was the Newcomen engine. Watt then began to repair it, but was amazed with how little work the engine was able to do. “At that time, Newcomen engines has been used in Britain for 50 years, and no-one had found a way to improve them.” Watt then decided he could make a better engine and that is when he created the steam engine.
